As I prepare for my year in the Chair, one of the most significant decisions I have had to make is the selection of our “Master’s Charity” for 2026.
Freemasonry is built on the pillars of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. For me, “Relief”—or charity—is most meaningful when it supports those who are fighting the hardest battles. That is why I am honoured to announce that my chosen charity for the year will be Friends of PICU. (Friends of Paediatric Intensive Care Unit).

Why Friends of PICU? While this is a widely recognised and respected organisation, my reason for choosing them is deeply personal. A very close friend of mine had a little boy who needed urgent, critical care. The support his son—and indeed his entire family—received during those terrifying days was nothing short of incredible.
I will perhaps share more of that specific story later in the year, but suffice it to say: I have seen firsthand the difference this charity makes when families are at their most vulnerable.
What They Do Friends of PICU supports the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton Children’s Hospital. They care for critically ill children from across the South of England and the Channel Islands, ranging from newborns to teenagers.
The NHS provides the essentials, but Friends of PICU goes above and beyond to provide:
Vital Equipment: From specialist cots and ventilators to dedicated ambulances for retrieving sick children.
Family Support: Funding accommodation so parents can stay near their children, and even providing soft toys to comfort the little ones upon admission.
Staff Training: Ensuring the medical team has the advanced skills needed to save lives.

Save the Date: 10th October 2026

We will be raising funds throughout the year at our festive boards and regular collections, but the highlight of our fundraising calendar will be the Charity Ball on Saturday, 10th October 2026. Watch this space, updates will follow.
Please mark this date in your diaries now. It promises to be a fantastic evening of celebration, but more importantly, an opportunity for us to make a tangible difference to a service that saves children’s lives every day.
I look forward to your support in making this a record-breaking year for fundraising.
Petr
